Many people who know me or meet me for the first time usually think that I am similar to most young, devoted and modern persons who live life as it comes. What they fail to understand is that I am a serious guy who knows what I want in life. Since my childhood, I have always wanted to make a positive impact people’s lives, regardless of their age, ethnicity, sex and cultural background. I believe that the values that have been instilled in me by my parents will not only make me achieve this objective but also enable me to go for any career of my choice.

Although there are other career options out there, I choose to pursue a career in dental hygiene because of several reasons. First off, my personal traits such as being responsible, adaptive, respectful, honest and caring are well suited for this career path. I understand that these qualities are not only valuable, but are also needed in a society that is productive oriented. As a focused and dedicated person, I consider a profession in dental hygiene as something more than a way to generate income and support a family; for me, it is also to serve the community and those in need of dental care. My desire is to give whatever talent I will get after graduating to the public through excellent healthcare service. Moreover, I intent to share my expertise with young families and local communities so that they can develop the skills and the habits needed to prevent oral ailments from negatively affecting their lives.

To explore and establish my interest in dentistry, I volunteered as an assistant dentist at our local clinic. During this period that lasted for seven weeks, I was introduced to several dental techniques by the resident dentist. Even though I was only as observer, I had the special opportunity of meeting and interacting with patients. Moreover, I made contact with a diverse patient population, which had different problems regarding their dental health. I observed the resident dentist dealing with every patient individually and treated them to the best of his ability. I was able to familiarize myself with different strategies of disease prevention and oral health promotion. As a result, my interest in pursuing a career in dentistry grew because of the things I learnt and the experience I gained.

My long term goal is to establish my own dental practice in the coming years. This desire has been ignited by the growing number of low income individuals with dental problems, and is in dire need of radically reduced or free services. In the course of my career as a dentist, I want to achieve what other professions have failed to achieve. Nothing can give me so much happiness than transforming a neglected mouth to a healthier and newer mouth. In light of my unique work ethic and an unwavering commitment to develop my talent to the full, I want to assure you that I will be a model and an exemplary student by not being a disappointment.
