Intellectual property (IP) refers to making of the mind: inventions, literary and creative works, and symbols, images, names and designs used in business IP is divided into two categories: Industrial property, which involves inventions (patents), trademarks, industrial designs, and geographic indications of source; and Copyright, which involves literary and artistic works such as novels, films, poems and plays, musical works, creative works such as drawings, paintings, photographs and sculptures, and architectural drawings. Rights associated to copyright include those of performing artists in their concerts, creators of phonograms in their recordings, and those of presenter in their radio and television programs (WIPO and copyright).

Plagiarism means presenting the information, ideas, or phrasing of a different person as the writers own work without proper recognition of the source. This includes such as submitting a commercially organized paper or research project or submitting for academic credit any work done by another person (Washington State University and Copyright. 2009-2010).

The intellectual property and plagiarism are related since intellectual property is the copyright of a person own creation work and plagiarism means presenting other work without permission from that person. Thus, if a person copies others work to use as him or her own work that will define as plagiarism.

According to standards of conduct for student page 20 mentions, “If the reported violation is the student’s second offense, the student is ordinarily required to appear before a university conduct board with a recommendation that the student be dismissed from the university.” (Washington State University, 2009-2010).

My academic goal is try my best to get a satisfactory grade for all the classes that I need to take later and graduate with a degree of business – Finance from WSU. Thus, I will not and not allow second academic integrity violation happen in my life ever again. After graduate, I will apply OPT and find a job in the US in order to earn more experience. If I have the chance I would like to go back to school again learn more and get a master degree. If I am not going back to school, then I will go back to my home town, Hong Kong, to find a job that is related to finance.
