Introduction
The current impact of global warming presents many challenges to global economic and social development. It is on this ground that the analysis of the situation and policies geared towards its mitigation are more critical than ever. In this regard, the paper supports the idea that the emission of black particles as well as carbon dioxide into the atmosphere is the main cause of global warming. Therefore, the pollution phenomenon is not exaggeration but a reality. The impact of global warming due to climate change is a serious threat to human survival. Continued emission of carbon into the atmosphere from all corners of the globe increases the carbon footprint that is responsible for degradation of the ozone layer. Moreover, the use of non-renewable energy sources is facing a sustained debacle as world crude oil reserves are being exhausted. These two main concerns call for the development of alternative sources of power given the demand for electricity to drive development projects. The Kyoto Protocol and the recently held Copenhagen climate talks have backed the adoption of renewable sources of energy like solar, wind, nuclear, and tide wave energy. The discourse on environmental challenges, for instance, global warming has not only aroused public debate but also called upon global leadership to show commitment to conserve the environment.
The prediction of the future with respect to environmental degradation is alarming, and the solutions to the negative effect of climate change require a collaborative intervention. Scientists and environmental experts try to gaze into the future by extrapolating the negative factors associated with environmental degradation coupled with visible trends and forces along a single line (Peter 11). I can understand the frustrations that the global community feels when their leaders fail to put their policies together. I believe that the differences in the discussions will one day happen, because it is technically impractical to merge different policies of the global communities as well as the leadership in order to develop one single policy document. The United States of America have a prominent role to play and as such, our leaders must carry on with the fight before harmonizing the policies at international level. In this regard, it was wise for the president in collaboration with his running mate to come up with the program New Energy for America Plan. President Obama’s pledge to cut down the amount of carbon emission into the atmosphere could not have come at a better time, because, as Americans, we need to streamline our green policies before engaging the global communities in talks. Other than the difficulties faced by leaders at the global talk conventions, I also hold that the different political regimes have slowed down policy development. For instance, while the former president Bush’ administration gave California a waiver on pollution, the Obama’s administration sought to reconsideration on the same. The Republicans and the Democrats have different policies on how to curb global warming; this is another serious impediment to policy development. I do believe that even though the re-election of president Obama had some weaknesses, it was significant that the president had another chance to help America develop a clear green policy. In as much as the Republicans saw this as a way of punishing local investors, this would be a short-term sacrifice geared towards reducing carbon emission into the atmosphere for the benefit of generations to come. I support the Democrats’ intention to sponsor more research on green technology for it is the sure way of resolving the global warming phenomenon.
Global warming, according to current researches, is mainly caused by the emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Several research studies attribute global warming to emission of green house gases in the atmosphere thereby destroying the ozone layer (Goldman 5). Therefore, any strategy to solve this menace should curb the emissions of green house gases. The American society recognizes this importance and as Jackson writes, president Obama appointed John Holdren as a science advisor on issue of conservancy (6). Moreover, the president sent a memorandum to EPA directing the agency to reconsider lifting the waiver on California with regard to the emission of carbon (IV) oxide into the atmosphere. The president is pursuing this solid thinking on environmental issues. Real environmental conservation calls for sincere sacrifice of every member of the society. Therefore, if all political leaders can show consensus on environmental problem mitigation plans and support them, it will be a great achievement. Reducing the amount of carbon (IV) oxide and other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere is the main solution to global warming as the gases deplete the ozone layer. I contend that the introduction of carbon trading as a strategy for curbing global warming is not good enough. Carbon trading is an agreement reached by one or more firms such that a firm pays another firm for reducing its carbon emission into the atmosphere with leaner production methods. In the program, most firms in the developed countries buy carbon credits from the firms in the developing countries that can reduce their carbon emission. Carbon trading is a method intended at reducing greenhouse gas emissions, but it cannot be a reliable way to curb global warming. This is because big firms that operate in full capacity are the major contributors to causing greenhouse gas emission. If they make their own production methods leaner, the overall impact would be greater than those of small firms that operate in developing countries. Efforts to curb the emissions should be implemented in all fronts in order to have a significant impact at the global level. This is possible if the political regimes would be willing to commit more funds to delve into scientific research on leaner and greener production methods. Therefore, the future sustainability of the universe relies on how well the current generation fights the menace that continues to bog our minds.
Global warming is a real world threat that has direct effects on the existence of the human race economic prosperity across the globe. As noted by Rosenthal, global warming is a scourge that not only poses a threat to human survival but also limits global economic growth and development (10). In this regard, it is important for all nations, specifically the developed world, to step up their involvement in the fight against global warming. Recently, many countries have experienced the repercussions of global warming. These repercussions include earthquakes, flooding, and drought just to name a few. On the other hand, the global environment and weather conditions have drastically changed. Indeed, scientific studies coupled with observable experience reveal a scary situation of global warming (Salmon 11). However, countries and the top leadership have not handled the situation with the utmost seriousness required. With these scaring facts, I find it necessary to address the issues of global warming more amicably, because evidences are real. It is painful to note that world leaders spend many resources to organize conventions to discuss global warming which give no resolution. The conventions fail to come to a conclusive end and implementable policies because of self-interests of the developed and developing nations. Ending meetings without resolving our issues on global warming is worrying, because the answer to melting ice in the Polar Regions, the rising sea levels, and the changing ecological patterns lies in successful lobbying of the world leaders. The developed nations need to cut down on their carbon emission by committing to implement green technologies even if this would mean low rate of production. Speaking about people, the sustainability of our environment will define how we will get food in future and how the future generations would enjoy what Mother Nature offers. Hence, the quest to fight global warming is not only a benefit of the current generation but also is aimed to achieve the sustainability of ecological balance.

Conclusion
The importance of addressing carbon emission is critical not only in solving the problem of global warming but also in enhancing sustainable development. The survival of humankind is critical, and it is majorly pegged on environmental issues. A well-conserved global environment will not only enhance sustainable development but also give assurance for future life. It is, therefore, prudent for leaders to take an active role in conserving the environment. Environmental conservation is an obligation which should be taken seriously since it touches on human survival. In this regard, like other nations, the United State of America should step up its commitment towards solving environmental issues such as global warming. This will require leadership that not only recognizes the need to conserve the environment but also understands the negative impact of environmental degradation on life. Global warming is real, and it requires the effort of everybody at all capacities to ensure that life and economic development are guaranteed. In this regard, it is prudent to note that all members of the society should take an active role in environmental conservation. This is because sustainable development is anchored in the conservation of the environment. In addition, environmental conservation will go a long way in solving the current challenges of global warming.
