My Learning Experience during the Practicum

The experiences and privileges I have had for the duration of my apprentice teaching experience have been incalculable. I have learnt a great deal about kindergarten student, coaching, preparation, and so much more that will aid me in my prospect profession as a kindergarten education tutor. There were many significant skills in both of my assignments that are important reflecting on (I’ll do nearly all of that in my reflection of my practicum learning experience, assessment administration-the pre and post assessment data, challenges and strength, and data analysis).

Every day of my job was a learning day as I took the student through my daily lesson plans. As time passed in the course of my first period class, I would write down what I needed for the following and subsequent classes. I did this to ensure that I was delivering what is best to the student who turned out to be eager to gain the knowledge. Most of my duties were full of practical work. I worked hard to make the student understand and to encourage myself as an archetype. My job started off with phonics in an effort to introduce the student to the phonemic awareness study. I scribbled letters one by one on a white board while giving the student an opportunity to grasp every bit of it. Owing to the interest that the student had, he was fast at taking away the marker pen from my possession and trying to do the same. He perfected in letters before I could teach him word study. He caught up with the other students who began learning many years ahead of him amazing their parents. Within a period of three months, my student could identify each word by spelling, sound as well as develop vocabularies. He spoke fluent English like he was a practitioner.

I attribute the success of my career to the methods that I used to teach. I maintained three principles that are still in place. The first one and most important to me is that a student feels that my lessons are welcoming and is comfortable to learn. I made my student understand that he was learning for a purpose and had to take interest in whatever he was doing. Secondly, I ensured that my student understood what I was taking him through. I always made sure that I repeated myself even if he did not ask for it. Finally, I ensured that I assessed him throughout the period for every activity during the study and after the post-study.

To ensure that my student got me right, I used different attractive presentation strategies. At first was the whiteboard scribbling that I later realized that he was less attentive to. I engaged in the technological presentations making PowerPoint presentations with slide shows and sounds that gave him the ultimate environment of getting what he wanted. I let him repeat the sound after the laptop I was using giving him the chance to study on his own even after school. This also helped me to reduce my talkative nature and increase his interest in learning. I found out in my I had to practice more psychological aspect of my career than the education I purposed. He sometimes could concentrate much on watching the video I used to teach him without getting a word from it. He could therefore explain some activities in action than in words. At some point, he started rejecting other methods of delivery. Sometimes I even feared speaking out some words not because they were abusive or too technical but because I feared making the wrong pronunciations. I also had to watch out for him not to get hurt as he loved playing with dangerous materials. My student spoke very slowly at first and I easily lost his attention.

I taught my student how to socialize with people and he knew how to address everyone he met. For this reason, I did not have any problem during my assessment as my lecturer got the due respect from my student. For my academic purposes, I recorded the activities and managed to conclude the education process by drawing the graphic organizer below:

From the graphic organizer, my lecturer could tell what I was learning. I fully committed myself to my job until the end of the practicum. I had managed to record my lessons in both audio and video. This will help the student continue with learning even in my absence. I wrote a report that I believe will help the other tutors in education the young scholars as they fight to achieve their best. I collected enough data and analyzed my student’s progress. My findings were that students perform when not stigmatized. They love the education but will only be benefiting when the teacher uses the methodologies that provide interactions.

I learnt a lot during this time and this will be to my advantage in the future. While I was busy some days, struggling to make things happen, I was at most of the time thriving and jovial. The student was nice and the job was encouraging. I realize what is in store for my future.
