Introductory Letter

There is nothing I enjoy in life more than writing and reading considering that my parents provided me with a supportive environment necessary for the development of the fundamental culture from my early childhood. My love for books and pen is indispensible and will continue to flourish against all odds and distracters that life might bring on my way - be it my passion for the medical career or other ventures of similar kind.

In my inherent reading culture, I read a lot of Elizabethan literature - Shakespearian in particular - and a little bit of Caribbean literature as well. These literary works are mainly novels, shorts stories, and plays (fiction and non-fiction alike). Of late, I am in the habit of reading apocalyptic literature drawn across major religions of the world: Christianity, Islam, Hindu and Judaism. This is attributed to the mere fact that my interest in religion is flaring due to the critical role it plays in well-being of humankind in the contemporary societies.

There are several reasons why I love reading Shakespearian literature above other writers of the Elizabethan Era. William Shakespeare, the writer of great books like Othello, Romeo and Juliet, Merchant of Venice and Oedipus Rex, is considered to be an outstanding writer due to his classical language and draftsmanship. I can’t help but read the world renowned playwright’s sonnets on a daily basis since they are soothing and highly appealing to my inner soul and spirituality. His plays are the real source of inspiration not only to me but to the rest of the world as well. I also take much pleasure in reading a number of great stories by Kate Chopin and the famous American Allan Poe.

Hitherto, I have successfully taken basic writing skills to completion in various subjects as offered by different professors throughout my elementary education. These classes imparted to me fundamental writing techniques such as writing process, prewriting, outlines, punctuation, and proofreading. To advance these skills, I have also embarked on serious private studies, one-to-one lectures from various professors and writer modules on my own initiative.

Even though my course work demands that I do much of the academic and formal writings such as memorandum and academic reports, I spend most of my precious time doing creative writing on a regular basis. Most of the imaginative articles I write freely are mainly narrative, expository, and descriptive in nature. Additionally, I could take some time working on e-mails and drafting letters to friends and relatives in an attempt to keep my social networks active as well.

It is significant to note that I write academic and formal papers only on demand and spend every minute of my leisure time doing creative writings, e-mails and letters. As a result, I am compelled to become a man of letters, as inspired by William Shakespeare, who devoted much of his historic life to writing sonnets and plays for his audience. Every time is a writing time for me.

I am strongly convicted that writing and reading go together. As such, I read as I write. I make it a routine to read the Holy Book of Quran as a source of inspiration everyday. Apart from this book, the adored Shakespearean sonnet has also become an integral part of me and I cannot do without it at any given moment. Currently, I am reading Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew.

In conclusion, my main goals for this class are mainly to perfect my art of draftsmanship and readership in all genres of literature. Suffice it to say writing and reading are my prime hobbies and interests.
