On 17th December in the year 2010, a man by the name Mohamed Bouazizi set himself on fire in the capital city of Tunisia. He was doing this as a personal protest against the form of governance that was prevailing in his nation. By that time, the government of Tunisia was mistreating innocent citizens who were not supporting the incumbent president. Mohamed took it to himself to express his dissatisfaction on the way the government was mistreating innocent women and children. He did not know that his actions would trigger that would lead to the change of the lives of most citizens in the Arab world.

Despite the revolution staring in Tunisia, other Arabs in the neighboring countries adopted the same spirit of revolution and rose against the dictatorial form of leadership in their respective governments. After his death, during his funeral, an upward of 5000 mourners matched with chants of, “Farewell Mohamed, we will avenge you. We weep for you today; we will make those who caused your death weep.” After the death of Mohamed, a 12-month period full of intense protests, violence, and revolutions covered most of the North African countries and other in the Middle East. These revolutions and protests led to the bringing down of several governments, including Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, and Iraq. After Tunisia, the next country to experience the effect of the Arab spring was Egypt.

In Egypt, people saw signs of a similar explosion to the one that took place in Tunisia on 25th January. On this day, which was coincidentally the national police day, thousands of people took to the streets in protest. The crowds, who had surrounded at the Tahir square, continued to increase in size despite efforts by the government of president Hosni Mubarak to stop them .the Government even went further to paralyze internet connections in the entire country on 27th January, but this was not going to stop the citizens of Egypt from proceeding with their protests. The anti government activists in Egypt clashed with the riot police in the city of Cairo on that day, a war that led to many innocent civilians losing their lives. The protests continued for almost two weeks until president Hosni Mubarak gave up power. Since the month of February in the year 2010, Egypt citizens have suffered from disillusionment from their revolution and the manner in which the military of Egypt is growing in strength. In the month of December, citizens again revived fresh protests in the city of Cairo at the Tahir square. Violence broke out again in the city of Cairo, with activists engaging in fierce battles with the anti riot police.

Despite all the Struggles towards the fight for freedom, one can say that Egypt is making tremendous steps in the journey to freedom. For example, Egypt just held its first democratic election process in 2011. Even though, the process encountered some challenges, it is fair to say that Egypt is on the path towards acquiring democracy and justice to all citizens. However, we should give credit to the start of the Arab spring and Mohamed, who was the man behind the revolution in North Africa and other Arabic nations.
