Women, in their constant struggle for recognition, are blessed in the recent years with immense opportunities. Even though struggles and challenges accompanied their opportunities, they did certain find a new path of financial success. This article attempts to highlight the different aspects of female participation in the correctional system that is notorious for its male domination. The issues mentioned in the article are the different internal and external hindrances that women are destined to encounter in the corrections department. These hindrances are sure to tamper the numerous career opportunities that prospective women expect to hold. These internal and external barriers in the employment field and work field of women are different from those faced by men in the same filed (Holland, 2008). This is the field that is historically favoring men. Women in the field face exclusion of every fashion and are never able to enhance their position unlike their male counterparts. The weaker sex had to face hostility that is displayed along the interactional level even. Gender segregation, discrimination, physical and sexual harassment are also not strange in this male-dominated department. The author of the article has made a wonderful attempt to cover the different issues in the field. This is a wonderful highlight of the dark sides of the issue. Women face unjust obstacles in the employment field that is supposed to be founded on real talent, knowledge and abilities. The author is trying to say through his inferences that the corrections work force system is a field of gender bias and segregation. The gender polarization and other disappointment of women in the correctional work field is discussed in the article.
The author of an article has taken a highly appreciable step bringing in different studies that analyzes the issue in study. The kind inclusion of those evidences enhances the originality of the inferences and conclusion. This gives the article the word of appreciation and positive review that it really deserves.
The author’s points and his conclusion are agreeable in my eyes. The strong implications he includes and the scrupulous study of different aspects of the problem makes readers agree to his points. Further I am impressed with the historical context in which the facts are presented. The male domination, the real challenges faced by women, and the growing opportunities in the field are presented in a historic context. For example, the male-dominated nature of the clientele and the workforce is discussed from the historic context so that the evolution of gender segregation and gender polarization is well understood. This very presentation makes me agree to the author’s points.
