The movie Taken 1 is a story of Bryan who is already a retired government CIA agent. He then works as a security officer for celebrities. He has a daughter Kim whom he loves so much and who is a source of pride to him. Kim currently lives with Lenore, her mother, and a rich stepfather Stuart. Lenore and Kim manage to convince Bryan to allow her together with her friend Amanda to leave to Paris for the vacation. The father is reluctant but gives conditions that he must escort her to the airport, and she must call him on arrival to Paris and give details where she will be staying. He then gives her a prepaid international cell phone. On arrival to Paris, the girls meet Peter, a friendly person with whom they share a taxi. Peter takes their contacts and their apartment address.
The Albanian human traffickers’ gang uses this information to reach the girls. When they stormed the girls’ apartment, Amanda has put loud music. At this time, Bryan is calling Kim, and when Kim moves to take the call, she sees the men coming in and taking Amanda by force. Kim lacks enough time to talk to the father, but he manages to advise her to go to the next bedroom and hide under a bed, keep the phone on, and when caught by the kidnappers, scream out their description. She follows her fathers’ instructions. Bryan tries to bargain (with the kidnaper) to let the daughter go and threatens to kill the kidnapper, but he just says “Good luck” and hangs up.
Sam, a former Bryan’s colleague, says him that the kidnappers must be human traffickers and to save the daughter, he must act in less than ninety hours. Bryan flies to Paris using Stuart’s private jet. In the airport, he meets Peter who is hit by a track as he tries to escape. He then gets information of the gang that prostitutes women. He goes to the brothel, kills the guards, and escapes with a girl. When this girl awakens, she gives him enough information. He kills all the gang in the site except for Marko whom he tortures, gets information about his daughter, and then leaves him to die from electrocution. He finds Amanda who tells that Kim had been sold in the black market since she was a virgin.
He gets back to Jean-Claude who gives him Saint Claude’s address. After hearing that Kim was auctioned, he follows the luxurious yacht of a Sheikh, confronts the guard and the Sheikh, and saves his daughter. They return to the U.S where Kim reunites with her family and later starts singing classes with the help of Sheerah.
The motive of the writer of this script is to show the extent of love of a father towards his daughter. This is evident as he retires to get close to her daughter in California and takes his time to shop a birthday present for her. In this movie, Bryan uses his skills of a retired CIA to save his daughter from kidnappers. The movie also portrays Lenore as a careless and ignorant parent who does not take into account the age and wellbeing of her daughter as she allows Kim to travel knowing very well the purpose of her flying to Paris.
The movie begins by portraying the big love that Bryan has for his daughter. This prepares the audience for any action that he takes, concern over her whereabouts, and his efforts to rescue his daughter after she was kidnapped. The movie has a fluent sequence, which does not distract the viewer because of the “jump cut”; this gives the movie an overall story continuity. The movie takes 90 minutes to play a story that may have taken months or several days. The simultaneous actions are cross cut and edited to come up with a sequence where any unimportant story is omitted. Taken 1 movie is well-edited having a good sequence of actions flow.
The element of dialogue is very efficient as it makes the movie move forward. It brings out humour, and we get to know the thoughts of the characters and elaboration of the movie. Using dialogue, the movie displays creative expression, which not only sounds unique from the boring reality but also seems realistic. This is seen throughout the movie among almost all the characters involved. For instance, when Kim is in Paris, and the girls are attacked by the kidnappers, Bryan tells Kim to keep call and shout their description in five seconds when they get hold of her. This makes the viewer eager to know how this information will help Bryan.
The motion picture element has been well used to display the violence sequence, the thematic material, and the language. For instance, when Bryan goes to the brothel to look for Kim, we do not see the men having sex with the girl behind the curtain, we only see a man kissing a girl at the neck though she is nude and dead because of the drugs overdose. This element portrays Taken as a sequence of violence when Bryan kills almost everybody who stands on his way to rescuing his daughter. The movie has intense scenes where there is torture, for instance, Marko is left to die from the electrocution. We see fighting at the pop star concert at the beginning of the film and it goes on till the end when Bryan saves his daughter.
