Is the American Dream Still Alive

The earlier American settlers had a dream to transform the American continent into a land of freedom, full of opportunities for all people, regardless of their diverse differences. The earlier American were escaping the European based religious discriminations and political repression that had increased the level of poverty. Thus, the immigrants had a dream to create a self-fulfilling government that would consider the dignity and happiness of man as a fundamental right.

The economic dream of all the earlier immigrants as well as the following populations of America remains the right and ease to access economic possibilities in order to rise from poverty to prosperity. Similarly, the American’s social dream of equity of opportunity and resources is yet to be solved because of the current class-differentiated society while the earlier immigrant wanted to build a classless society. Therefore, the American dream is not alive because of the numerous distinctions between races, ethnic cultures and various economic statuses of many people living within the same nation.

Religious freedom of American has been realized as the first form an achieved American dream. There are no longer religious discriminations since the constitution protects the fundamental values, beliefs and freedom of worship.

American freedom is defined by the Declaration of Independence that states that every American citizen is entitled to particular unalienable rights, which are appropriate to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. Freedom is yet to be achieved because of racial inequity that led to diverse civil rights movements. These continually act to petition the government to instill liberty of all people, regardless of racial and cultural differences between American communities. The end of slavery and racial segregation marked a move towards achieving the dreamed independence .However, racial differences in the work place, government employment as well as disrespect of immigrants, incarcerations and excessive use of force towards minorities hinder the process of attaining economic prosperity.
