Airports are vital and monumental as per as the air transport is concerned. In the case of sustainable airport construction practices, the aim was to collect and provide resources to facilitate a quick and easy way to enable users to identify potential airport construction practices. According to the researchers, Air sustainability refers to a holistic approach that aims at managing airport to make sure that the economy’s integrity, viability, efficient natural resources conservation, as well as responsibility. On the other hand, construction includes those activities that are crucial in the fulfillment of the requirements of an Airport design specification ((U.S.), 2011). Therefore, sustainable construction reflects to those practices that bear sustainability benefits in the process of these projects construction.
The researchers aim to come up with a comprehensive collection of crucial data from existing and newly talented Airport construction practices. They identified and consulted copious sources. Data was collected from published literature, and online surveys were conducted with an aim of getting information that is detailed. Interviews were also conducted to facilitate data collection from outside sources other than the published ones. Surveys were used in data collection whereby the research team identified industries and organizations that have experience in this area. These organizations and industries were categorized in a diversified spectrum to ensure that a broad expert’s subject matter was covered.
Data collection was a complex process, and researchers had to organize the process into two formats. These formats included categories based on construction practice. In this case, common elements in any construction project were identified with an aim of fulfilling design specification requirements. The format used was the implementation stage, which identified the typical project phase within the practice occurrence.
After the researchers came about with an organized collection format, what followed was to put several steps into practice with an aim of making sure that there is effective and efficient use of the collection. The steps followed in this case included a selection of an appropriate database presentation and it forms the basis of the format used in the search. The search collection used with has either filter or none (Associates, 2011). The users of the collection have an obligation of trying and are conversant with activities such as how effectively use the hard copy collection, use collection spreadsheet, browsing, and how to browse within the spreadsheet.
In respect to the stated data collection methods, the researchers attempted to gather from case studies, which were used together with the researchers’ experience. These case studies were based on sustainable construction practices. Some of the case studies used were warm-mix Asphalt, which provides essential knowledge on how to have reduced fuel consumption, resulting into reduced emissions. The pavement case study was used in order to acquire knowledge on improving the safety, durability and the pavement efficiency.
The researchers also gathered relevant information from the material reuse case study. The information gathered equipped the researchers with material reuse and discharge of pollutants. In the anti idling campaign, this aimed at getting relevant information to reduce air pollution from engines when idle. Information collected from the LEED awareness aimed at highlighting the materials that were environmentally friendly and those allowed by the LEED green building system. The information gathered in this case study was aimed at ensuring that the building was done using practices that are environmentally susceptible. In the pavement resurfacing provided the best practices required ensuring that the airport pavements remains in order. Finally, in the solar cells usage mainly focused on saving energy and constructing Airports that have a global competitive advantage as well as self-sustaining.
